Joshua's First Day of School!

Josh started school today! Wow, these past five years have flown. When he was taking a bath this morning this morning, I thought, I remember bathing him as an infant like it was yesterday! How he has changed! He's still all smiles, but he's so mature and smart now. Yesterday we went to visit Sean at work and one his coworkers gave the boys tickets ( like raffle tickets) from and roll that was sitting around. Josh passed them out to his brothers and Sean asked him, "Why did you give them that many? Josh said, " Well, I gave Isaac one, because he's one. I gave Nathan three because he's three, and I got five because I'm five. But really, Isaac has two, Nathan has six, and I have ten." (They were the double roll kind that you can take apart.)

This morning I drove him to school and took him to his classroom, even though the bus picks him up across the street in front of our house. He didn't seem nervous at all, walked right down to his classroom, where his teacher greeted him and asked him to find him name and put his backpack down by it. He found it quickly, let me take a picture and give him a hug, and then went over to the rug where the other kids were reading. He hardly even turned around. He's been so excited for several weeks now.

The new trampoline...

This last week we decided to get the boys something to play with in our bare backyard. We started off shopping for a wooden swing set, but after we got to the store and it was closed, we decided to get a trampoline instead. After a few drops of sweat and blood were shed, and a long evening it was set up! The boys love it and it's a great way to get them tired out before bed. :)

He's pumping...

Insulin!

We got Nathan's insuling pump hooked up today! It was quite the experience hooking our child up to what is similar to an IV, but it was definitely worth it. Afterwards we went out for ice cream. Sean had to get back to work, so it was just Nathan and I, sitting there at a United Dairy Farmers enjoying our ice cream cones. When he was about finished I opened up his meter/remote, pushed a few buttons and... it was delivered! No insulin cartridges, no syringes, no alcohol swabs, or having to do math calculations in my head. It did it all for me! He looked up and said, " What was that?" (The pump vibrates when the remote wirelessly communicates with it.) Then, with a big smile on his face, " I tooted!"

I smiled and said, " It was your pump Nathan! No more shots!"
He yelled, " Yay, no more shots!"

It was all I could do to contain myself. After we got in the car, and Nathan couldn't see, I shed tears of joy. For the first time in over two years he could have an ice cream cone without having a shot. He may not be cured, and he still has to have his blood sugars levels checked four times a day, but this is a gigantic leap in his care, and will make it so much easier on both of us. We are definitely counting our blessings today.
